The Provision for the Needy in the Torah

Farming practices are commanded in the Law to ensure the provision of the needy, the poor, and the sojourner. The edges of the field and the gleaning of the vineyard are to be left for them. Furthermore, there is a general provision in Deuteronomy for a person to eat their satisfaction from the field of their neighbor, and Deuteronomy also commands the "year of the tithe" to provide access in the gates to the Levite, sojourner, orphan, and widow.
